The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art welcomes an exhibition of paintings from Ukrainian/Chicago artist, Anatole Kolomayets. Born in the Poltava region of Ukraine, Kolomayets (b.1927) relocated to Chicago upon graduation from the Royal Academy of Arts in Liege, Belgium, 1954. He has since firmly established himself as an artist in Chicago within the international community. His work was shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions. He was one of the founders of the Ukrainian Artists’ Group “Monolith”, active in Chicago 1954-1958. Kolomayets is foremost a colorist, though traces of artistic influence from his background of travel and education abroad are apparent in the diverse combination of styles within which he works. This exhibition will focus on a selection of works from the last two decades.
Anatole Kolomayets has had numerous individual exhibitions in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and Denver. He has also participated in group shows
throughout the U.S. and abroad, and was named Merited Artist of Ukraine by President Yushchenko in 2007. The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is delighted to welcome Anatole Kolomayets for his first showing within our walls.

You are invited to attend the opening of “My Mother's Song” - an art exhibit by Valentyna Sanina on Friday, March 5th at 7:00 pm. The exhibit will continue through March 21st.
“Human art for human lives” is the way that Valentina Sanina describes her work, a description whose simplicity belies the depth of meaning behind it. She has dedicated her exhibit of pen and ink, oils and beaded oil paintings to her mother and to Ukraine - her motherland.
Born in Ukraine, Sanina was formally educated in the Soviet Union, where she became a celebrated muralist and was elected a fellow of the prestigious Art Society of the former USSR. Her work has been published and exhibited throughout the United States and as far away as Japan.

Discussion with Ambassador Steven Pifer
Have the recent elections in Ukraine signaled the end of the “Orange Revolution” and the return of “Ukraine Fatigue” in Washington and the European Union?
Steven Pifer, former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, will discuss the political and economic developments in Ukraine and their impact on Western views and future economic assistance. Most of all, he will outline measures the new Ukrainian government must take to encourage Western support, aid and investment. Ambassador Pifer is a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he focuses on arms control, Ukraine and Russia, and a nonresident senior adviser with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Previously, he served for more than 25 years with the State Department, where he was a deputy assistant secretary of state, and also had postings in London, Moscow, Geneva and Warsaw, as well as on the National Security Council.
